Good Hope Tutoring Services (GHTS) is seeking passionate, reliable, and engaging Reading and Math Tutors to join our growing team serving students throughout Southern Maryland. We are currently building our Fall 2026 tutor pool and are looking for dedicated educators who want to make a meaningful impact on students in grades K–8.
This position is ideal for certified teachers, retired educators, paraprofessionals, college graduates, graduate students, and experienced tutors who are passionate about helping students build confidence and achieve academic success.
Selected candidates will complete onboarding and participate in free professional development and training opportunities during the summer to prepare for Fall tutoring assignments.
What You'll Do
- Provide engaging, individualized, or small-group tutoring in Reading and/or Math for students in grades K–8
- Deliver instruction aligned with student needs and academic goals
- Foster a positive, encouraging, and supportive learning environment
- Communicate professionally with families and Good Hope Tutoring Services staff
- Maintain attendance records and submit required session documentation
- Utilize provided curriculum resources and instructional materials
- Support students in developing confidence, study skills, and independent learning habits
Preferred Tutoring Locations
Tutoring assignments may take place at:
- Public libraries
- Community centers
- Schools
- Students' homes (when applicable)
- Virtual platforms (limited opportunities)
Most opportunities will be in-person.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 2 years of tutoring, teaching, mentoring, or educational experience
- Strong knowledge of Reading and/or Math instruction for grades K–8
- Ability to build positive relationships with students and families
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel within Southern Maryland
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to pass a Maryland CJIS fingerprint-based background check
- Ability to work independently and professionally
Preferred Qualifications
- Current or former certified teacher
- Experience working with struggling learners
- Experience supporting students with IEPs, 504 Plans, or learning differences
- Familiarity with Maryland College and Career Ready Standards
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field
- Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply
Summer Training
To ensure the highest quality of service for our students, selected tutors with under 5 years of tutoring experience will be required to participate in Good Hope Tutoring Services' summer professional development sessions.
Important:
- Training is provided at no cost to tutors.
- Training is not mandatory for everyone but encouraged for active placement consideration.
- Training time is unpaid.
- Training will be offered virtually throughout the summer.
Topics may include:
- Instructional best practices
- Student engagement strategies
- Reading and math intervention techniques
- Documentation requirements
- Child safety and professionalism
- Company policies and procedures
