About Us
Old Mother Hubbard Child Care Center is a family-owned, MSDE-licensed early learning program serving Baltimore families at our Hilton Street location. Our grant-funded Pre-K classrooms deliver high-quality, full-day prekindergarten aligned with the Blueprint for Maryland's Future, the Maryland Early Learning Standards (MELS), and a Maryland EXCELS Level 5 standard of quality. We serve a diverse community of learners, including children with developmental and learning differences, in inclusive classrooms supported by on-site clinical and therapeutic partners.
We are hiring a Lead Pre-K Teacher to anchor one of our MSDE Pre-K Expansion Grant classrooms. This is a meaningful opportunity to teach in a well-resourced, mission-driven program with real instructional support and room to grow.
Position Summary
The Lead Pre-K Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering a developmentally appropriate, standards-aligned curriculum for a classroom of three- and four-year-olds; managing the classroom environment and daily routines; partnering with families; and supervising teaching assistants and aides. The Lead Teacher ensures the classroom meets all Blueprint, MSDE grant, COMAR, and Maryland EXCELS requirements while creating a warm, inclusive space where every child can thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and implement daily lesson plans and learning experiences aligned with the Maryland Early Learning Standards (MELS) and the program's adopted curriculum.
- Conduct ongoing child assessment and screening, maintain accurate documentation, and use data to inform instruction and individualize support.
- Create and maintain a safe, organized, and engaging classroom environment that meets COMAR and Maryland EXCELS standards.
- Partner with families through regular communication, conferences, and home–school engagement.
- Support inclusive practice for children with diverse learning and developmental needs, collaborating with on-site therapeutic and clinical partners (e.g., ABA, speech, occupational therapy) and following IEP/IFSP goals where applicable.
- Supervise, mentor, and coordinate with teaching assistants and classroom aides to maintain required staffing ratios.
- Maintain compliance with all MSDE grant requirements, licensing regulations, and program policies, including required documentation and reporting.
- Participate in professional development, coaching, staff meetings, and Maryland EXCELS quality-improvement activities.
Required Qualifications
To meet the Blueprint for Maryland's Future requirements for grant-funded Pre-K classrooms, the Lead Teacher must hold:
- A bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a closely related field (e.g., Child Development, Elementary Education with an early childhood focus, or Special Education).
- Minimum of 1 year of experience teaching young children in a licensed or approved early childhood setting.
- Successful completion of required background checks, fingerprinting, and medical/health clearances per COMAR.
- Current (or willingness to obtain) certifications in CPR/First Aid, Medication Administration, and Emergency Preparedness/SIDS training.
- Strong knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice, classroom management, and family engagement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Teaching Strategies and the GOLD assessment system for ongoing observation, documentation, and reporting.
- Master's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special Education, or a related field.
- Experience teaching in inclusive classrooms or with children with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental differences.
- Familiarity with Maryland EXCELS, MELS, and MSDE grant compliance.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus.

Schedule
- Full-time, Monday–Friday, on-site.
- 7am-3pm OR 8am-4pm
Pay: $65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
