Head Start is the most successful, longest-running, national school readiness program in the United States. Preschool aged children have benefited from Head Start through the development of their early reading and math skills they need to be successful in school. This full-time contractual position will serve as a Early Child Growth & Learning Specialist and provide comprehensive education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to qualified children ages 0 to 3 years and their families. GLSs provide primary caregiving activities to the children as well as activities designed to promote their social, creative, physical and cognitive growth. The Early Child Growth & Learning Specialist supports the mission of Talbot County Early Head Start to nurture children, empower parents, and strengthen families by providing comprehensive, year-round early childhood and family development services to qualified families. The Early Child Growth & Learning Specialist also supports the mission by providing caregiving and physical, emotional and learning support to children with special needs.
*MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS*
*Education*: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
*Experience*: One year of experience in providing information on health care and disease prevention within the community.
*Notes*: 1. Candidates may substitute experience providing assistance to individuals in a health care or social services setting on a year-for-year basis for the required education. 2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Health Services classifications or Health Services and specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
*DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS* The desired candidate should possess a 90 hour Child Care Certificate, Infant Toddler Child Development Associate Credential or Associate Degree in Early Childhood Development or related field. Experience working in a supervised early childhood program with children ages 0 to 3 years is also preferred. Candidates will be required to participate in the MSDE credentialing program and maintain throughout employment.
*LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS* Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
