Description: This is a position located in Elkton, MD. This is estimated to be a for the 2026-2027 school year.
GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Under the direction of the Instructional Coordinator for Special Education, the Physical Therapist will provide direct and consultative services to infant, child, and adolescents as well as coaching of families and staff. Typical duties include coaching, evaluations, and developing Individual Family Service Plans (IFSP) and or Individual Education Plans (IEP).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION
- Conduct physical therapy (PT) evaluations and write evaluation reports
- Participate in assessments of family routines (Routines Based Interview).
- Develop IFSP outcomes and IEP PT goals and objectives.
- Participate in IFSP/IEP Meetings.
- Observe/screen student and make appropriate recommendations to staff and family.
- Deliver PT services to individual/small groups of children and their families in their natural learning environments.
- Coach families and child care providers to support the developmental needs of children with disabilities in homes and early childhood settings.
- Collaborate with early interventionists and preschool staff to support children and families during weekly team meetings.
- Recommend strategies, modifications and adaptive equipment to improve access and performance of developmental or educational goals and related activities
- Operate and assist with the care of therapy equipment.
- Provide collaborative consultation and training to school staff and families in techniques for proper handling of student or use of special equipment.
- Supervise Physical Therapy Assistant.
- Create and provide Professional Development.
- Complete and submit Medical Assistance.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
- Holds a Maryland State License in Physical Therapy.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to Individuals with Disabilities Act.
- Knowledge and expertise in evaluating and delivering school based PT services and early intervention services.
- Is willing to complete the MSDE personnel standards training activities.
- Strong and effective spoken and written English communication skills, including the ability to compile and maintain accurate medical/therapeutic records including Medical Assistance and IFSP/IEP documentation and billing.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, administrators, teachers, and paraprofessionals.
- Has a valid driver’s license and automobile for use.
